Investigation of the correlation between porcelain phase composition and bending strength using a Rietveld quantitative analysis

Alumina, mullite, and cordierite powder were added to a whiteware porcelain slurry sintered at 1280 °C investigate the correlation between composition strength. The X-ray diffraction patterns of bodies show that no new phase was formed, material remained intact. Except for sample group which added, strength increased as additive content increased. A Rietveld quantitative analysis indicated amorphous decreased with increasing additional alumina mullite content, while constant regardless content. decrease in porcelain, which, case 15 wt.% alumina, by 57 %. dramatic increase is attributed residual stress due difference thermal expansion coefficient phase, well formation addition alumina.
